Juan Carlos Mondragón is from Montevideo, Uruguay. He received his doctorate in Barcelona with a dissertation on the theoretical work of Joaquín Torres García and in Paris with a dissertation on the prose of Juan Carlos Onetti. He is currently a Professor of Literature at the University of Lille. In addition to teaching, he writes fiction. Until the middle of the afternoon of the day before yesterday, I thought I had a good angle for the article I was writing about an incident in the Russo-Japanese war of 1904, as a way to further the discussion about the submarine strategy employed during the blockade of Port Arthur.
